Health Spending Account

This is to help you along with some answers to frequently asked questions about the new Health Spending Account.

~  Effective dates are August 3, 2014 – July 31, 2015.

~  Only A & B employees on benefits (extended health) & have worked 3 years qualify.

~  All receipts submitted must be dated in this time period.

~  Claims can be made 2 ways: on-line (www.ab.bluecross.ca) or paper through the mail (Canada Post). Claim Forms are available at the Customer Service Office.

~  What is not used in a year does not roll over into the following year.

~  There is a 60 day period at the end to get your receipts in to Alberta Blue Cross. The final date is Sept. 29/15.

~  The plan automatically tops up your portion of prescriptions.  If you do not want this to happen, you need to call Alberta Blue Cross at 1-800-661-6995.  You will need to keep all receipts to submit at a later date if you still have money left.

~  The Group is 8954. Your Identification # is on your Alberta Blue Cross card.

~  If you’ve lost your card call Alberta Blue Cross at 1-800-661-6955.

~  To find out what is covered go to The Canada Revenue Agency website (www.cra-arc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html).  In the search field in the top right corner enter: medical expenses.  Click on “Which Medical Expenses are eligible?”  This will get you an alphabetical list.  By clicking on an item, more information is shown.  You can also get a list of “Authorized medical practitioner by province for the purpose of claiming medical expenses”on the same page.

~  You can sign up for direct deposit on-line (www.ab.bluecross.ca) or you can mail or fax it to them. Forms are at H:Human Resources/Forms/Alberta Blue Cross Health Spending Account Direct Deposit Form.  Address & fax # are on the form.

~  If you have further questions, the best place to call would be Alberta Blue Cross Customer Service at 1-800-661-6995 between 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.

Hope this helps.  We may be able to answer some of your questions.  Call 403-299-6700
